This document covers specs for RX-7 alignments. (Specifically the 2nd Gen RX-7)
Q: It would be great if you could get me the exact specs.
A: OK - here goes... (At the risk of being flamed and corrected by hundreds of RX-7 listers. :-)
I have an 1990 GXL - used as a "daily driver" - short non-freeway commute - and a weekend autocross car. No track events. Here are the "spec" alignment figures from the shop manual. Note that they are +/- values - which essentially is a "range" of adjustment that is possible. I put the settings I am currently running in [here]. The toe values are "per side". If you want to know the "total toe", just multiply by 2. Note I run in the "stock" autocross classing - so my settings are basically within the "stock" range. If you are not running in stock, you can have the settings customized for a greater range. (Common customization would be more negative camber in front.) You can make toe settings in front anything you want them to be.
Front:
Toe-in (inches) 0.12 +/- 0.12
Toe-in (degrees) 0.2 +/- 0.2
I run neutral to toe-out 0.0 to -0.1 per side
*Camber (degrees) 0.33 +/- 0.5
I run the - side, about -0.2*
*Caster (degrees) 4.66 +/- 0.75
I run the + side, about 5.3*
Rear:
Toe-in (inches) 0.12 +/- 0.12
Toe-in (degrees) 0.2 +/- 0.2
I run slight "extra" toe-in: 0.25 per side
Camber (degrees) -0.75 +/- 0.5
NOT ADJUSTABLE
*Front Camber/Caster Note: Front Camber/Caster is adjusted by unbolting and rotating the top strut mount to one of 4 possible positions. Pick the position with the most negative camber, and the most positive caster. You cannot adjust between these ranges, you must pick one of four settings.
Front toe is adjustable to a very wide range. I've found the camber/caster adjustment made a more significant difference in handling. I currently have toe-out at about 0.2 per side - a little too much when you get past 80MPH. I finally got onto the freeway yesterday and decided that I'll probably back it down to 0.1 or 0.0 soon. At low speed (autox/city streets) the extra toe-out is fine. Not sure how far you can go without excessive wear, but I think -0.2 per side is still pretty "minimal". If you are doing long freeway drives, 0 to slightly positive toe-in (0.1 per side) is desireable - it maintains the "return to center" steering characteristic - helpful when you fall asleep/read a map/ change the radio stations/ etc. Rear toe is adjustable to a pretty narrow range. Factory setting is fine. Rear camber is NOT adjustable. Ok, there it is. Baring my soul to the RX-7 list. Awaiting all the "advice" on what I should change... :-) :-)
